Flames of War - (Tutorial) - Ruined Houses (Modular Set)

Hi all.... considering all the need for buildings and in regards to my former post I tried to at least safe some money and invest some time in more ruined buildings.

For that I took again my large sized beermatt bases and did some castings. As described in the tutorial about the ruined house objective marker I broke the casting into pieces and rubble.

The parts are then glued along with the rubble to the base and basecoated.

Assuming this ruin is a bit longer in existance I the used filler for some earth and gave that a brown  basecoat.

Next steps include a drybrush with white on the stone structures as well as a drybrush with Vallejo US Field Drab on the earthen structures. Afterwards I took some white PVA Glue and added lines for sanding as well as for flocking.

Happy building everyone

Flames of War - (Tutorial) - Painting - German Panther Tank (Plastic Soldier Company) - Part 1

Hi all !
Finally a new topic and this time it is paintings tutorials. As described in an earlier post you will find the conversion paints for Citadel colours to my Vallejo used ones for your pleasure.

The tank itself is easy to assemble even if you do not have a sheet which explains it to you. That is not PSCs fault but mine as it was included and I simply put it away too carefully.

The same paints etc used on this plastic model also can be used for the resin ones by Battlefront if you still have them in use.

I am not using any Airbrush Pistol so this is done with a normal medium sized "0" Brush (not 00 oder 000).

Colours I am using will be :
Gunmetal Grey (Vallejo)
Flat Brown (Vallejo)
Black (Vallejo)
US Field Drab (Vallejo)
Nuln Oil (GW Citadel)
Kaki (Vallejo)
Transparent red (Vallejo)

Battlefront and every other book or tutorial normally uses an undercoat and then afterwards a dark yellow. After quite a few tests and comparissons I finally switched to US Field Drap.

Step 1: Simply Basecoat your Tank with US Field Drap.

Step 2: Use Nuln Oil (feel free to use plenty) for wash. This also helps giving a more weathered impresssion on the tank itself

Step 3: Use a mixture between Kaki and US Field Drap for drybrushing (i used approx 50/50

As well as the shot down plane and the latest one with the Silo.

I am pleased and my gaming table seems to fill more and more and more

The shot down plane will also enter the competition on a building website called :

Terragenesis

So lets keep the fingers crossed to win this one.

Have a nice weekend ! And November will see the painting stuff (had to order a couple of units extra for this and the perfect excuse for it :))

Flames of War - (Tutorial) - Objective Marker - Silos (Part 3)

The last and final part for the silos. Slight drybrushing with Paynes Gray (Winsor & Newton) on both of the outer sides of the silos followed up with Vallejo Gunmetal grey for the pipes and the project is finished. Looks easyly across the board and looks sinister enough for gaming.

Happy building !

Flames of War - (Tutorial) - Objective Marker - Silos (Part 2)

Yesterday we started the silos and I promised some extras on them. Today we restart this project with a matt black basecoat that is sprayed over the whole stuff. Silos tend to be either greyish or as on the picture shown in the first post being more blackish. As the plastic on the Kinder surprise eggs is already more shiny I took a matt spray and hoped to get quite a shiny but not too shiny result.

I am pleased what it did.  Upfront I cut out some extras. In movies you always see flags of all nationalities flying around and so I got my hands on a pdf more suitable for 28mm figures and their flags, but cut down  it looks like a huge flag on the silo. A marker you can not miss on a battle field.

Tomorrow will be the third and last post of this silo with the rest getting painted.

Here we go with todays result:

Flames of War - (Tutorial) - Objective Marker - Silos (Part 1)

Hi all,

this months topic is nearing an end and so there is still some room left to fill in the objective gap....

After looking around I came across a website with some gaming action and found this picture:

Silos for grain or fuel... and defo the stuff I want to have on my gaming table instead of the all tooooooo know fuel dumps ....(like these):

So lets go to some action again and down to the supermarket. This Silo stuff needs something I have in mind and these are "Kinder surprise eggs"... why these ???

If you glue them together you will get quite an easy silo. The sticks will later on represent the pipes. Better to use straws, but these I do not have at home.

These two "gents" there will fit to a large base later on. Currently I have glued them to a 20mm*20mm "base". Reason is that normally fuel "dumps" also have some protective layer as not to contaminate the earth around.

Step two will see the priming and some extra decors I found on the net.

Happy building !

Flames of War - (Tutorial) - Objective Marker , Shot down Messerschmitt Fighter (Part 5)

After that I add some flames and smoke to it... a fresh shot down plane. Perhaps someone survived ???

Flames of War - (Tutorial) - Objective Marker , Shot down Messerschmitt Fighter (Part 4)

After everything dried over night it was time for the basecoat (matt black).

The colours for the plane at present are a olive green, dark green, black green, and a bit of metallic colours .

The surrounding field is a bit in burnt sienna as this also can represent the kerosine lost after the crash. Couple of highlights still needed.
